One of the biggest challenges for a couple is to pray together. Many men were never taught to pray. Women might be too busy or be fearful to take this step. I remember being challenged with this twenty years ago and not knowing what to do. I knew that I was to lead spiritually, but I was fearful and didn’t want to be rejected or ridiculed. Praying publicly and praying aloud was for preachers. What should I pray? How should I pray? Some practical helps are included in the Faith section, but just step out and begin.
If we acknowledge God only in words and in a quick prayer before dinner or breakfast, that is not enough. He wants to help us with our marriages. Sometimes it is difficult to know how to pray. Ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you. Here are some helpful scriptures that you can easily turn into prayers and blessings for your spouse and family:
- Galatians 5:22–23
- Ephesians 1:16–19
- Ephesians 3:14–20
- Colossians 1:9–12
- Romans 15:13
- Numbers 6:24–27
